A recent study conducted by Professor Doug Leith of the Trinity College of Dublin revealed some shocking facts that heightened the privacy concerns among smartphone users. According to Prof. Leith, Android and iOS smartphones collect and share user’s data with their parent company after every Four and a half minutes. Findings revealed that there is not much difference between Google and Apple when it comes to certain data collection. Both the companies provide same kind of data security. Every 12 hours, Google devices send 1 MB of data whereas Apple phones send 52 KB to their companies.
The data that is shared includes hardware serial number, SIM details, IMEI, Wifi, handset details, MAC address, and the phone number. The data collected not only sends information about the user’s handset but of the handsets nearby also. The worst thing about this whole scenario is that the users can’t choose to opt-out of this data collection.
