Ex-Pakistan Navy serviceman, Fakhar Zaman, who joined the navy in 2007 as a sailor in the Operations Branch, has been made an honorary lieutenant in the Pakistan Navy on his achievements in the cricket arena and association with the Navy at a special epaulet award ceremony held at the Pakistan Naval Headquarters. Chief of the naval staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi was the one who conferred the rank of honorary lieutenant on Fakhar Zaman.
During the early years of his service as a sailor in the Pakistan Navy, his excellent cricket talent was identified and he represented the Navy in many tournaments. He earned numerous laurels for the navy. His international cricket debut match was in 2012 when he participated in the International Defence Cricket Challenge Cup held in Australia, while he was serving in the navy. He was declared the best player of the tournament and was rewarded with Sanad-e-Tahseen by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC). Pakistan Navy courteously provided him the opportunity to continue his career in cricket by joining the Pakistan National Cricket squad, in recognition of his cricketing talent. He became the first Pakistani to score a double century in an ODI. The award ceremony was attended by civil and military officials, dignitaries of the cricket board, and friends and family members of Fakhar Zaman.
