The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) authorized emergency approval for the Pfizer-BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine for adults only (people above 16-years-old). Although people have started receiving doses of this vaccine, experts believe that there is still a long way to go with this virus. They believe it will take a long time for this vaccine to have a noticeable effect while the COVID-19 pandemic persists. Even after the vaccination, people should prepare themselves for restrictions as they will remain in effect for some time as we all work together to restrict the COVID-19 transmission.
Dr. Timothy Brewer, of David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, said it’s important for us all to recognize that due to pauses in vaccine production and high demand, there will be no immediate change in society. Doctors believe that there isn’t any good amount of data yet on whether these vaccines prevent transmission or not. It means that the same preventive protocols that were followed by us over the past year must still be adhered to. These protocols include physical distancing, washing of hands, and wearing protective masks.
