Pakistan faced arch-rival India in an Olympic event final after 53-years

Pakistan and India faced each other in the final event of an Olympic game after 53-years. The Javelin throwers of both the countries competed with each other in the medal stage of the game. The Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem and the Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra topped their respective groups of the Men’s Javelin Throw event in the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 on Wednesday. 

23-years old Neeraj qualified for the final by hurling a massive 86.65 meters throw in the Group A qualification rounds. Neeraj also became the first Indian athlete to top the entire qualification event in any Olympic games. The Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem topped the Group B qualifiers by hurling the throw of 85.16 meters. Neeraj Chopra of India, Johannes Vetter of Germany, and Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan are at the top 3 positions in the Javelin Throw event. Pakistan and India last competed in the final of hockey in the Olympic event of 1968, where India defeated Pakistan.
